We have previously written that the divorce party trend has swept across the United States over the past several years. It has caught on so much in Florida, in fact, that it was recently turned into a musical.
A theater producer and a Florida divorce counselor teamed up to create "Divorce Party the Musical: The Famous Journey to Hell . . . and Back!" In January of this year, the show premiered at a theater in West Palm Beach. The show has apparently seen enough success that will soon be traveling to other parts of the country.
According to a recent theater industry website, the musical will be making its West Coast debut early next year with a series of performances in Los Angeles. It will be interesting to see how the show fares outside of Florida, and if the themes will resonate enough with theatergoers to earn the show national acclaim.
Divorce counselor Dr. Amy Botwinick, who co-created the show, believes that divorce is no longer the dirty little secret that it was during her parents' and grandparents' generations. As such, divorce parties are a healthy way to celebrate an important transition in life.
She adds: "Today, 50 percent of first marriages end in divorce, and 60 percent of second marriages end in divorce. So, half of everyone who has ever been married has gone through a divorce - and the other half experiences it indirectly through friends or family. We have ceremonies and celebrations for many things: weddings, bar mitzvahs, funerals, etc. Why not a divorce? Divorce can now be seen as a new beginning, a future, a positive moving on for all involved and finding the happily ever after."
